What we do

Ably’s team is diverse yet engineering heavy given the deeply technical product we deliver. Collectively the team brings a wealth of experience and broad technology skills across infrastructure, security, distributed systems, and much more.

In this role

You will implement and oversee all of the company’s IT operations and processes relating to its Information Security Management System (ISMS). You will be reporting to the Head of Finance and Operations, and working with the CTO who is the technical authority for the associated systems and processes.

You will:

  • operate the IT systems. This includes, for example, our identity management system (Okta), our email and document management system (Google App Suite), desktop maintenance and software standardisation for essential components like anti-virus;
  • assisting in the formulation of policies and procedures across all areas of the ISMS;
  • specifying and delivering the systems required to establish and track compliance with information security policies;
  • conducting and completing security risk assessments, which includes internal and external reviews for ISMS compliance and reporting security status and events to management;
  • provide expertise in compliance programmes for regulator and ISMS standards such as SOC2 and ISO27001;
  • assisting our infrastructure team to run regular system audits, replay disaster recovery procedures, and monitor key systems;
  • provide 1st line support to the company and our customers where appropriate;
  • thinking of and implementing new ways to automate and improve information security and IT across the business.

You will have responsibility for Data Protection operations and fulfil the role of Data Protection Officer (DPO) especially in relation to the company's legal obligations under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and related legislation.

Beyond the ISMS, the Operations function is responsible for ensuring the availability of IT equipment and services to support all parts of the business. In this role you will also be responsible for management of IT equipment, services and associated processes, which will involve:

  • assisting in the formulation of policies and procedures for IT equipment and services operations, including acquisition and maintenance;
  • specifying and delivering the systems required to implement those policies and procedures.

Requirements

You will be successful if you:

  • are process-driven and understand how important this is in the context of security;
  • are confident and able to make decisions and will take a pragmatic, proactive approach to work in order to respond to a variety of demands;
  • can constructively challenge, facilitate and probe to fully understand the business needs;
  • have excellent communication skills and can explain complex things very easily;
  • are able to solve problems identified through audits, risk assessment and incidents;
  • can plan and prioritise workloads, whilst working to strict deadlines and measuring progress;
  • are articulate and capable of producing high quality written output, including policies, procedures and reports;
  • are detail-oriented - you notice the small things.

Technical skills needed:

We will strongly prefer candidates that have prior experience of implementation or operation of ISMS frameworks such as SOC2 and ISO27001; however, this is not essential if candidates can otherwise demonstrate an excellent understanding of information security and related principles, an understanding of the technology stack, and an appreciation of the process needs of the ISMS.

Similarly, prior experience of IT operations management is useful but not critical.

Nice to have skills:

  • SOC2 / ISO 27001 Implementation / Audit Qualifications
  • Certified Information Systems Manager (CISM)
  • Experience of working in a technical support manager/team leader role where adherence to standard operating procedures, established systems and processes was required
  • Experience of managing IT Support, including supporting enterprise systems, desktop and cloud productivity, and mobile device applications
